Obituary

New Jersey Superior Court Judge Felix A. Martino, 86, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2020.
A man of the Law, Judge Martino graduated from Upsala College in 1958 and Seton Hall University School of Law in 1961. He was associated with the legal departments of Aetna Casualty and Surety Co., the Essex County Welfare Board, and the firm of Stevens and Mathias, Esquires, when in 1974 he was appointed a judge of the Essex County District Court, eventually being elevated to the Superior Court of New Jersey.
In 1980, Judge Martino was honored as Jurist of the Year from the Grand Jury Association of Essex County.
Judge Martino was a member of the Essex County Bar Association, the New Jersey Bar Association, and the American Bar Association.
A native of the Branch Brook section of Newark, NJ, Judge Martino was a longtime resident of Short Hills and Essex Fells. He was an avid traveler with his wife Gerda Charlotte Bruegmann-Martino, having spent considerable time in Europe immersing himself in the cultures of Italy, France and his wife’s native Germany. He enjoyed following football and baseball, and had a passion for playing the sport of tennis.
Judge Martino was born to Marie Caputo Crecca and Alfred Caprio Martino, an attorney, on March 5, 1934. He is survived by his beloved wife Gerda and his beloved children, Alfred C. Martino and Jennifer Martino Nehrbauer, from his first marriage.
Judge Martino enjoyed a large extended family, and coveted his personal and professional friendships, including many that spanned his lifetime.
His son and daughter hope to, at some point in the near future, invite relatives and friends for an outdoor memorial service and lunch to celebrate his life. Condolences and memories may be shared at shookfarmer.com.

I remember Felix well. We were Assistant County Counsels in Essex County . He was a thoughtful and careful lawyer and a good friend. We attended law school about the same time and shared many pleasant moments together. He was a conscienitous jurist and a good tennis player. Rest in peace, Felix.
